Nine arts and culture organisations across the east and south-east of London have been awarded a share of more than £1million to help them build sustainable fundraising models.
Arts Council has awarded the money to successful applicants to the Catalyst Evolve programme, targeted at organisations with a limited track record in fundraising. Its aim is to help incentivise private donations by matching money raised for three years.
East London Dance in Stratford will receive a grant of £140,000.
Director Polly Risbridger said: “The pace of change in Stratford and the wider East London area is exponential with a rapidly expanding cultural offer, radical shift in population demographics, and vast investment in infrastructure.
“This grant will help East London Dance grow our network of supporters and further diversify our income base in order to stay relevant and competitive in this fast-changing environment.”
The money will also help organisations develop successfully and sustainable fundraising models with the aim of them continuing to generate new money for the sector beyond the end of the grant programme.
Minister of State for Digital and Culture Matt Hancock said: “British art and culture is among the best in the world. We want to see it thrive.
“That means continued public funding, which is a critical underpinning. And it means increased philanthropic and private investment has a vital role to play in their continued success.”
Other projects in East and South East London receiving funding are:
- Artsadmin, multi-arts production organisation (Aldgate East): £150,000
- Coney Ltd, immersive theatre company (Whitechapel): £75,000
- Tamasha theatre company (Shoreditch): £150,000
- New Contemporaries, supporting emerging artists (Shoreditch): £90,000
- Paraiso School of Samba (Southwark): £75,000
- Dance UK (Bermondsey): £134,000
- Entelechy, participatory arts (Deptford): £140,000
- Poetry London magazine (Deptford): £96,300
- The Yard Theatre Ltd (Hackney Wick): £85,000
Across the country, 140 projects will collectively receive a total of £17.5 million through the programme. 34 of these are in London, sharing £3,965,234.
London area director Arts Council England Joyce Wilson said: “London is home to some of the most exciting creative organisations in the world.
"I’m therefore thrilled that the Arts Council has been able to support so many of them in achieving their ambitions to diversify income, safeguard their businesses, and keep London creative.
