Street dance crew aims to get Hartlepool healthy

Residents of Hartlepool are being urged to hit the dancefloor in order to get more people physically active.

The Feel Good in Hartlepool project led by Hartlepool Council’s Sport and Recreation Service will receive almost £200,000 of funding from Sport England over three years.

It is seeking to promote participation in street and hip hop dancing, with a particular focus on the 14-19 age group, adults, families and disabled people.

A drop-in launch event will take place at Brierton Community Sports Centre on Monday October 26th. There will then be a series of six weekly dance sessions before the challenge culminates in a mass participation dance event.

The initiative has already received a massive boost with the news that Zac Healey from award-winning Hartlepool street dance crew Ruff Diamond has agreed to get involved and pass on some of his expertise. Dance schools around the town are also being asked to pledge their support and involve their members.
