Rambert is launching ‘Rambert Elements’ a choreography programme for schools

Contemporary dance company Rambert has announced that it is to launch a nationwide choreography programme aimed directly towards secondary schools and colleges for the 2015/16 academic year.

The choreography programme initiative known as Rambert Elements will conclude with performances at various venues across the UK with a grand final event to be held in London

The Rambert Elements initiative will enable groups of students to create and perform short works inspired by choreographers including Rambert artistic director Mark Baldwin, Aletta Collins and Alexander Whitley.

As part of the process, the choreographers will each create a toolkit containing resources such as music, online interviews, pre-devised movement phrases and group tasks.

Participating schools and colleges will then use the toolkits to create new works which will be showcased at one of six regional venues:

Rambert's director of creative projects, Joce Giles, said: "I am delighted that we are able to launch Rambert Elements, a nationwide initiative that will support teachers and students to develop their own choreographic skills by bringing the ideas of leading choreographers directly into the classroom."

It is expected that the programme, which launches for the 2015/16 academic year, will see more than 500 pupils from 36 schools and colleges take part.

Criteria and Selection

We are looking for groups who can demonstrate creativity, commitment, and enthusiasm. Groups do not have to be experienced in contemporary dance and we would like to encourage groups who work in other styles of dance to also apply.

The selection panel will be made up of the following Rambert staff: Mark Baldwin (Artistic Director), Joce Giles (Director of Creative Projects), Lucy Field (Learning and Participation Manager), and Hannah Lockyer (Rambert Elements Coordinator).
