Banbury students take to the stage before Birmingham production

Four students from Banbury have successfully auditioned to be part of the Curtain Raiser for Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty at Birmingham Hippodrome

Conor Dowers, Jess Page, Lauren Bricknell and Alex Hardie all attend Stratford-upon-Avon College and train at the theatre for six weeks on Saturdays.

They successfully auditioned to be part of a short dance piece before the production, which has been performed for six consecutive years and highlights the emerging talent of dancers aged between 12 and 18.

Working with professional choreographers Clare Palethorpe and Joe Walkling – the young people will create their own response to Sir Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty.

The Curtain Raiser is becoming a main feature of the annual Matthew Bourne season at Birmingham Hippodrome and has been highly commended by Sir Matthew himself, who is a great supporter of developing and showcasing new skills.
