Dance hopefuls in Burton could learn to dance for free as Ultra Ballroom comes to town

Budding dancers in Burton are being urged to get their gladrags on and get ready to boogie and ballroom, all in the name of charity.

Ultra Ballroom, which runs programmes of free ballroom training, will be coming to Burton in September, teaching Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers wannabes how to take to the dance floor in style.

The training sessions will be held at the Valery Dance Studio in Ferry Vale Close, Burton, from Saturday, September 16, and anyone is welcome.

To take part, dance fans will have to sign up and pledge to raise at least £50 for Cancer Research UK. This money can be raised from sponsorships, donations or any other fund-raising activity.

Dance fever is once again ready to grab the nation as Strictly Come Dancing is poised to return to TV next month for its 15th series. The BBC reality show has celebrities teaming up with dance professionals to take part in different dances every week in a bid to find the best overall dancer.

The Ultra Ballroom training in Burton, which is aimed at male and female beginners, will be held at a professional dance school in the area, and fund-raisers will be able to get in shape as well as mastering a new skill in one of the most popular dance forms.

When the dancers have perfected their routines, they will be invited to put on their sequins and feathers in Burton's first Ultra Ballroom black tie event, which will be held at the Market Hall on Saturday, November 11.

Ultra Ballroom marketing manager Robyn Johnson said: "We are so excited to be launching Ultra Ballroom in Burton and from the enthusiasm, it's received so far it looks set to be as successful as its partner event.

"We know how much people enjoy watching ballroom dancing on TV and now is their chance to take part themselves and put the rumba into research."

The fund-raiser is organised by the same team behind Ultra White Collar Boxing, which has already raised a whopping £9 million for Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK is the world's leading cancer charity dedicated to saving lives through research. It receives no government funding and every step it makes towards beating cancer relies on every pound donated by the public.

a Hallas from Cancer Research UK said: "This is the first event of its kind and we are delighted Cancer Research UK is Ultra Ballroom's chosen charity.

"It's fantastic to see the number of people that have signed up so far. Each of them is helping us beat cancer and, with their sequins, really will help save lives."
