Arts Council gives Dance United Yorkshire £17,500 funding boost

A local dance group that was set up to help young people become more engaged in the arts has been awarded a grant of £17,500.

Dance United Yorkshire was given the dance funding grant by Arts Council England, from its resilience and sustainability fund.

Based at Kala Sangam arts centre in Little Germany, the organisation works with marginalised and hard-to-reach people, such as children attending Pupil Referral Units, young offenders and children at risk of sexual exploitation.

The group is in the Arts Council's funding portfolio and currently receives around £90,000 a year in funding. The new funding will make them more "sustainable and resilient.

The group also gets funding from Bradford Council.

In total, around £1 million was awarded to arts groups in the North of England.

Duncan Bedson, the general manager of Dance United Yorkshire, said: “This makes a big difference moving forward, it will make us much more sustainable in this challenging climate.

"This shows the confidence Arts Council England has in Bradford. We're over the moon with this decision, we're delighted.

"We've been very fortunate with the support we've had from Arts Council England and Bradford Council."
