Our Pre-Launch offer for Dance Directory worked

Having never done a Pre-Launch before let alone run a business I must say that I was both surprised and excited this week when I started receiving papal notifications after sending out my first e-mailer, that people were paying to be a dance directory member.

My first semi-full operational week in business has made me realise that there’s so much more to this running a business lark and I never realised before how questionable, indecisive as well as understanding some people can be.

I am not saying that in a bad way at all, it’s just how things are I guess.

Although I know that everyone is different in having their own goals, targets, views and opinions I never quite imagined just how different.

For me, right from the start, I have clearly made it known the reason for me setting up the ABOUT Dance business and the Dance Directory website in the first place and at no point have I ever professed to be a business goddess.

Yet some of the conversations I have had this week has made me think that I should have spent the last 3-4 years doing a business degree in readiness.

The point I am making here is not in a negative way at all but more in a sobering thought kind of way. The setting up my ABOUT Dance business has been enjoyable, but throughout the whole process I have been apprehensive as to how and what people would really think and if I can do it and this week has given me a little glimpse of “yes I can”.

I can deal with most things but the hardest thing for me currently is the speaking on the phones, more the sale part than anything else. It has totally made me realise what people go through in overcoming their fears, as some of the calls I made ended up in posing a new question that somehow I need to have a ready plausible answer.

I’d ring and say something like “Hi it’s ABOUT Dance here and we’re starting up an online Dance Directory and wondered if you’d wish to take advantage of £65 pre-launch offer which ends the 31st January”

The questions back would be

  • “I need more time to think, can you extend the offer?”
  • “What’s your current target market?”
  • “What do you foresee your future traffic volume being?”
  • “Who’s taken up your offer?”
  • “What types of businesses are on Dance Directory?”
  • “We need to run it past other people first?”

Naturally, I know there will be questions, just not how many – also I have stumbled on some of the answers as I was not sure if we were at crossed purposes.

Despite everything, I am really pleased with how the first week went and I’d like to thank the following businesses this week for taking up the pre-launch offer.

N.B. As many people ask for time to think I offered a slightly increased pre-launch offer so I am waiting to see what happens.
