Young Darwen dance star will take to stage in finals of top competition

Young street dancer Mia Ceraldi will be leaving her crew behind to take centre stage in the finals of a prestigious competition.

The East Lancashire youngster only decided to take part in the heats the night before and then went on to win one of seven finalists’ places in the Street Dancer competition.

Mia Ceraldi, 11, from Darwen, usually dances with Manchester street dance group Noize but as several members of the team couldn’t perform in the heats of The Printworks’ Street Dancer contest she decided to go it alone.

Her sister Abbi Holden, 22, a part-time professional dance teacher who has appeared on the X Factor, helped her rehearse the routines which wowed the judges with their ‘confidence and attitude’.

Now Mia hopes to repeat her success at the Manchester finals on Saturday.

Parents Katie and Mario Ceraldi, who runs a barbers in Darwen, will be there to cheer her on.

Katie, a sister in the children’s unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital, said: “She does hip hop, jazz, house, street and a bit of ballet. I’m really proud of her.”

Her youngest daughter Bella, nine, also dances but prefers gymnastics.

Katie, of Sunnymere Drive, said her daughter Mia prefers the freestyle element of the competitions, where she dances an unrehearsed routine for a couple of minutes.

On Saturday her dances will be judged by dance professionals Lizzie Gough, Tomas Simon and Mark Calape on creativity, movement and delivery.

The finalists’ open auditions are available to view on YouTube and the public can vote for their favourite at theprintworks.com.

These scores will be combined with those from the judges to decide who will be crowned The Printworks’ Street Dancer of the Year. The winner also receives £1,000 prize money.

Mia, who dances three or four times a week in Bolton and Manchester, has just finished at St Edward’s RC Primary in Darwen and starts at a specialist performing arts school in Bolton in September.
