Two young and dynamic dancers from South Holland have stardom at their feet after reaching the semi-finals of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.
Poppy Gill (11) of Spalding and Dolcie Simmons (12) of Tydd St Mary, both members of hip hop dance troupe Entity Allstars from London, face their moment of truth next week when the live semi-finals of the variety contest take place in front of a TV audience of more than ten million viewers.
After reaching the final of Sky TV’s Got to Dance with dance group Unity Academy last August, Poppy is hoping to follow in the footsteps of previous dance winners such as George Sampson (2008), Diversity (2009), Spelbound (2010) and Attraction (2013).
But it’s Dolcie’s first time in the media spotlight and mum Cherie said: “She’s been rehearsing all week and the group train for long hours, so it’s hard work.
“But Dolcie’s loving it and she hasn’t missed a rehearsal so far.”
Entity Allstars got a golden ticket straight through to the live semi-finals when Britain’s Got Talent judge and former Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon pressed her Golden Buzzer.
Matt Gill, Poppy’s dad, added: “We’re in the middle of a week of rehearsals, filming in London in time for the live shows next week.
“We don’t know what day the show is going to be on TV, so it’s been difficult to work around this.
“But Poppy is still at school in Leverington Primary Academy in Wisbech, although we now live in Spalding, and she’ll attend Spalding High School in September.”
Meanwhile, Dolcie is being cheered on by Cherie and her dad Andrew, younger sister and fellow street dancer Bonita (9), relatives, schoolmates and staff at University Academy Holbeach.
Cherie said: “The school has been really, really good and the staff there said they’ll support Dolcie all the way.
“She and Poppy have known each other for years because they used to dance together at their old dance school and they get along really well.
“Poppy’s parents take it in turns with us to drive them to rehearsals and they both want to do performing arts as a career when they get older.”
