Osbaston pupil wins top ballet scholarship

A pupil from Osbaston Church in Wales School has accepted the chance of a lifetime to study ballet full time at the world-renowned Elmhurst School for Dance

Amelia Baraskiewicz attended auditions around the country and was offered a scholarship place at both Elmhurst School for Dance and Tring Park School, as well as a Mid Associate place (specialist weekend training) at the Royal Ballet School.

It is a fantastic achievement for the 11-year-old as more than 1,000 children apply for vocational ballet places at the schools.
On top of that, the government gives a means-tested Dance and Drama Award to the most talented and Amelia has been selected to receive it.

She will now be studying in Birmingham with state-of-the-art dance facilities, vocational teachers, and strong links to the Birmingham Royal Ballet company.

Since starting ballet at the age of five, Amelia has worked hard training at Monnow Ballet School with teacher Nina Salmon and also fitting in training at Royal Ballet Junior Associate classes at weekends and with A1 Dance Academy.

Nina Salmon said: “I am thrilled for Amelia. I remember her first lesson when she was tiny and thought then she will be a dancer one day.

“While a lot of children relax after a hard day at school Amelia has been training every day at class or at home.

“The auditions have been emotionally and physically demanding and she has really put everything into the process.

“What a wonderful achievement for her. Amelia has been a brilliant student and we will miss her but hope she goes on to bigger and better things.”
