Fantasy, wit and rhythm

National Dance Company Wales are the first UK company to commission one of the most talked about choreographers currently making work in Europe, Jeroen Verbruggen, whose work will be given its premiere performances in October.

Having received widespread accolades for his recent re-interpretation of Nutcracker for Le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève in November 2014, Verbruggen’s work is characterised by fantasy elements, edgy in style and with high energy movement.

Verbruggen’s new commission for NDCWales, A Mighty Wind, will explore the concept of ‘rock chic’, drawing on the experience of a stadium rock concert, combined with exploration of wind as a force and a catalyst for change.

A Mighty Wind will be performed alongside Johan Inger’s delightful Walking Mad, a colourful and theatrical dance journey, and Alexander Ekman’s Tuplet, a witty and high octane exploration of the simple notion of rhythm.

There will be a free open dance class at 12pm on the day of the performance, offering an exclusive preview of the backstage preparations for the show and the opportunity to discuss the creative process with choreographers, dancers and industry experts. The open class is free but must be booked online or through the box office.
