Dance Directory asks dance businesses and dance organisations “do you want to be on it?”

Dance Directory enters 2015 in a pre-launch status and is as such during the month of January promoting a pre-launch offer(s) to all those UK based dance businesses and dance organisations that operate within the whole field of dance.

With changes made recently by the likes of Google, it makes it even more beneficial for such dance businesses and dance organisations to be included within what can be termed as a localised specific industry-based online directory.

Reason being, that Google will always look for relevance and compatibility when deciding on the results to display when someone undertakes a web search.

So in simple terms - if you’re a UK based dance business or dance organisation and you’re on a UK dance directory then that will be seen as a plus point by Google, with further plus points gained if you then put a link back to the UK dance directory on your own website.

Google will note the content on both sites and quickly assess the relevance to each other which of course would be ‘dance’ in this instance and rank the sites accordingly.

Many people who use FREE listings on directory sites will ultimately think that being included on such sites does not work because Google never picks them up and this would be true. As FREE listings in most cases do not allow the content description to be applied, and the ones that do are generalised directories and not trade-specific or industry-based and therefore Google will see no relevance.

People will think it’s good that they appear in search results for their name which of course is good, but if people knew your name more than likely they wouldn’t need to search it, it’s the content and keywords you’d wish to be picked up for.

Many such directories who offer FREE listings will do so with ulterior motives in mind, this could be the selling on of your details meaning an increase in you receiving marketing calls etc, or media companies who use directories to build sectored databases to sell their own products such as advertising, websites, design and printing.

Nothing is really for FREE, and perhaps what it might often mean it’s not worth having!

Some dance directories are funded by the government or arts council via larger community-based schools and projects with the emphasis being on helping and putting back into the local community, therefore inclusion within these types of sites can be better in terms of online search results. The potential problem here of course could be ‘if’ or ‘when’ the funding stops what happens to these dance directories?

ABOUT Dance is a private enterprise and is the company behind dancedirectory.co.uk, its focus is pure dance and its promotion and therefore makes a charge for inclusion with its developing directory of dance.

Google in the old days used to frown on paid directories, but not anymore as they now see them as a good if not better thing altogether.

“So why would this be?”

Google now hold a lot of relevance to social media and the actions of users by their use of comments, reviews, sharing and wait for it… making a commitment - which in this case would be ‘paying’. The view here is if someone is willing to pay to be included within a website, and that inclusion obtains comments, reviews and gets shared by user interaction then that has to be a good thing as it’s an indicator to Google that that’s what the viewers, people want and find relevant to their needs
